Inge Panneels

Inge Panneels is a glass artist who designs and makes bespoke architectural or sculptural glass pieces from the IDAGOS glass studio. The majority of work is made to commission and site-specific.

Originally from Belgium, Inge trained at Edinburgh College of Art before establishing IDAGOS in 1998 and has acquired great experience in project management of large and small scale bespoke glass commissions. All work is made in-house using a variety of kiln based techniques (fusing, pate-de-vere, casting) and has excellent contacts with other trades and architectural services, allowing a full 'from-concept-to-completion' service. Inge also enjoys the collaborative process of working with other professionals.

Clients include: NHS - Lloyds TSB - British Telecom - Pizza Express - Dexia Bank - Klara (Radio3 Belgium) - Montpelier Group - Apex Hotels - Festival Inns Scottish Executive - Scottish Amicable - Clackmannanshire Council - Scottish Borders Council - Green Awards as well as many private clients.

In addition to the bespoke commissioned work, Inge Panneels also designs and makes collections of glass pieces for sale through selected galleries and shops (see website). IDAGOS has also designed glass ware for trade (Walco, Belgium) which is then produced for retail.

Inge also makes art installations and sculptural pieces for exhibition in non-commercial venues (Green, Sanctuary, souls, Field of Infinity, Flock).

Her work has been described as having a "fantastic stillness" (Homes and Interiors Scotland), "hauntingly beautiful" (Aberdeen Art Gallery), with a "meditative quality" (Crafts). "Her work combines high technical ability with a really creative approach. It is what everyone aims for but which is so hard to achieve." (Glass in Scotland)

Current/recent research projects (included funded awards)

Currently making new work as a commentary on recent political and social events. The new body of work is a set of large vessels made in blown and cast glass and pate-de-verre.

Research Interests

As an artist Inge Panneels' work is concerned with space and light. She uses glass as her prime medium as well as working with the architecture.

Conceptually her work is driven by the site specifics but a recurrent theme is the use of complementary opposition and universal mythology.

Inspiration for her work is driven by location and circumstance and life¿s rich tapestry but a recurrent theme is complementary opposition found in universal mythology.
