Lukas Mjartan

Lukas' background is one of ceramics and design where he gained much experience in working with clay, mould making and other art and craft. This furnished him with the necessary skills for his present day work in glass production. After finishing his studies at the University of Bratislava in 1994, it was not until 2000 that his interest in glass became apparent.

Mjartan's main interest is in kiln glass, having been privately trained under Professor Zora Palova and Professor Stepan Pala in 1998, he began to live and work in Bratislava as a freelance glass artist. In spite of Mjartan's young age, he is highly regarded with respect to his mastery of the kiln and therefore whilst in residence at the National Glass Centre was able to offer the University of Sunderland a whole new skill set along with many different artistic perspectives.
