Professor Brian Thompson

Professor Brian Thompson is Associate Dean of Faculty of Arts, Design & Media. From a background in fine art, he maintains a continuing practice in sculpture and drawing, exhibiting his work extensively in this country and abroad, most recently in Bratislava, Moscow, Vienna and a touring exhibition in the USA, Australia and the UK.

His research and studio practice draws from a wide range of sources including natural forms and landscape. The work is object based and involves and develops a wide variety of sculptural materials and processes.

He is currently Director of Studies to a number of PhD projects and has supervised practice-based doctorates in Art and Design since 1988. He has taught widely in Art & Design departments in this country, at all levels, and has considerable experience of external examining, course validation and consultancy. He was a Specialist Subject Reviewer for the Quality Assurance Agency.
